Kupwara: Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Kashmir, Shri Irfan Rasool Wani, IFS, today undertook a field visit to Kamraj Forest Division to review ongoing infrastructure, eco-development and other developmental works, besides assessing the overall forest protection scenario in the Division.
The visit commenced with an inspection of the Harwan Eco-Park in Harwan Block of Kandi Range, Sopore. The CCF reviewed the works undertaken at the site, including fencing, landscaping, plantation and other eco-development measures. He also inspected the low-cost open-air theatre and advised that it be effectively utilised for conducting environmental awareness programmes for school children and local communities. He directed that the balance works, including completion of gazebos, selfie points and signages, be expedited. Additional estimates were also advised for development of eco-friendly pathways and suitable eco-recreation structures, along with plantation of diverse species to enhance the aesthetics of the site and stabilise its contours. The CCF also interacted with local residents and listened to their suggestions and demands for further. developing the area as an attractive eco-tourism destination.
The CCF thereafter visited Zaloora, where he inspected the recently completed Forest Inspection Hut. He reviewed the quality of the work executed and advised preparation of additional estimates for lawn development and landscaping. He directed that the lawn be developed as an open space conducive to biodiversity studies, supported by appropriate interpretive signages. He further suggested that the lobby of the Inspection Hut be equipped with informative displays and suitable audio-visual material so that the facility can function as an Inspection Hut-cum-Interpretation Centre for locals and visitors.
The site is presently enclosed under Social Forestry and has a significant presence of fruit-bearing species, particularly walnut. The CCF advised bringing the area under an integrated plantation plan, with additional walnut plantation to develop it as a Walnut Conservation and Awareness Centre with nature-tourism potential.
The CCF subsequently visited Kandi Block of Kupwara Range, where a Nature Interpretation-cum-Library Centre is being developed by the Forest Department. He reviewed the progress and quality of execution and stressed upon greater involvement of local schools through regular awareness classes and nature-based activities. He encouraged utilisation of the library by students and highlighted the activities envisaged under Van Darshini, a departmental publication documenting 14 nature-based activities for school children aimed at inculcating awareness and appreciation of forests and natural resources and nurturing future champions of conservation. He further directed that additional estimates be prepared for strengthening the centre with audio-visual facilities and developing it as a comprehensive hub for forest and environmental awareness.
During the concluding part of the visit, the CCF interacted with officers and field personnel of Kamraj Forest Division and Forest Protection Force, Gamma Unit Natnussa, to assess the overall forest protection and management scenario. He reviewed field-level challenges and emphasised coordinated efforts for effective protection and management of forest resources.
The CCF Kashmir was accompanied by Shri Irfan Ali Shah, IFS, Conservator of Forests, North Circle; DFO Kamraj Forest Division; Deputy Director, FPF Gamma Unit Natnussa; Range Officers of Kandi, Sopore and Kupwara; Assistant Directors of FPF Gamma Unit Natnussa; and Block Forest Officers of Kamraj Forest Division.
