Akshar Mahotsav 2025 to Illuminate India’s Scriptural Heritage at the National MuseumNew Delhi, Nov 13 — The National Museum, in collaboration with The Calligraphy Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, is set to host Akshar Mahotsav 2025, a three-day national festival celebrating India’s timeless scriptural and calligraphic traditions. Scheduled from November 14 to 16, 2025, the event will be held at the National Museum, New Delhi, under the inspiring theme “Akshar-Sanskriti – Letters as Pillars of Culture.”
Drawing inspiration from the motto “Lekhan Se Sulekhan” (From Writing to Calligraphy), the festival promises to transform the National Museum into a vibrant hub of creativity and learning. It will feature a blend of traditional artistry and modern design, showcasing how ancient Indian scripts continue to influence contemporary art and education.
The event highlights include a Grand Exhibition featuring over 100 contemporary calligraphic artworks and rare historical manuscripts, master demonstrations by renowned calligraphers Shri Achyut Palav and Shri Mahendra Patel, and a Navankur Sulekhan segment dedicated to children on the occasion of Children’s Day. The festival will also host academic discussions delving into the “Grammar, Geometry, and Gesture” behind calligraphy, offering deep insights into the aesthetics and structure of Indian scripts.
“This Mahotsav is more than an event; it’s a movement to reaffirm that our scripts are the bedrock of our cultural identity,” said a spokesperson for The Calligraphy Foundation. “We are showcasing how these ancient forms continue to hold immense relevance in our modern world.”
The initiative reflects the Ministry of Culture’s vision of ‘Preservation with Innovation’, supporting India’s handwritten heritage while fostering creativity among youth and artists. It aligns with national initiatives such as the National Mission for Manuscripts, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, and the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), all of which emphasize cultural integration and creative education.
Akshar Mahotsav 2025 underscores India’s commitment to blending traditional knowledge with modern innovation, reinforcing the country’s role as a global leader in creative literacy and cultural preservation.
