Palakkad, Kerala – November 9, 2025: Two children from the Muthuka tribal settlement were killed and another seriously injured on Sunday when the wall of an unfinished house collapsed at Karuvara, Agali, in Attappadi.
The deceased children have been identified as Aadi (7) and Ajnesh (4), siblings and children of Ajay and Devi. Their relative, Abhinaya (6), daughter of Murukan and Anita, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital in Thrissur.
According to Bindhu, Chindakki ward member, the children often played near the incomplete structure. “The wall and sunshade suddenly gave way,” she said. “The roof was never completed, and years of exposure to rain may have weakened the building, leading to the collapse.”
The house had been under construction for nearly nine years, leaving it structurally weak. Residents noted that children in the area frequently played around the building, unaware of the risks.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The tragedy has raised concerns about child safety and housing conditions in tribal settlements of Attappadi. Community leaders are urging immediate steps to prevent similar accidents and ensure safe infrastructure for children in vulnerable areas.
